This event for people of all abilities is brought to you by Golisano Center for Special Needs, Fitness Inclusion Network, Move Along, and Syracuse Parks and Recreation.
The Golisano Center for Special Needs at Upstate Medical University is an umbrella of initiatives focused on 1) providing comprehensive, coordinated and scientifically-based medical and behavioral clinical care for children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD); 2) educating the next generation of I/DD practitioners; 3) research to understand the root genetic causes of disabling conditions and pioneering new ways to treat challenging behaviors, and 4) promoting inclusive fitness and active, healthy lifestyles for children and adolescents with I/DD through collaborative programs with educational and community- based organizations.
The TRAID Center at AccessCNY is a free lending library for the community that features durable medical equipment and assistive technology. TRAID is actively working with community partners to include more adaptive recreation equipment to the library such as adapted cycles and kayaks. An inclusive community involves having people with disabilities included in all aspects of life, whether at home, school, work or play.
“The revitalization of the Erie Canal based around recreation and I Love NY's Accessible Tourism campaign is a symbolic meeting of a rich history with a progressive future. The Canalway Corridor is an incredible resource that provides the Syracuse area with an accessible trail near lush green space. Our hope for the TRAID on the Trails event is to open more opportunities for people with disabilities to discover the trail and try out adaptive equipment, grow confidence, and bolster communities statewide, “ said Peyton Sefick, Inclusive Recreation Specialist, Golisano Center for Special Needs and Project Coordinator, Fitness Inclusion Network.
“This fun event is focused on ability and wellness for children with disabilities. Join us!,” said, Nienke P. Dosa, MD, MPH, Developmental Pediatrician, Golisano Center for Special Needs.
