Dean Hugh W. and Lynnette Bonner Student Emergency Aid Endowment for the College of Health Professions

Hugh Bonner - Spring 2015

Hugh Bonner, PhD, served as dean of Upstate’s College of Health Professions for 20 years, from 1995-2015.

During that time, he tapped a personally funded reserve to help students in the College of Health Professions who suddenly found themselves facing a short-term financial crisis that could have forced them to drop out of school.

Upon his retirement, he and his wife Lynnette established this endowment to ensure that this type of student assistance continues in perpetuity.

Years ago, a student’s family home was burned to the ground. All the family’s belongings, including the student’s, were lost in the fire. Dr. Bonner saw to it that the student received a $1,000 gift. The entire department rallied, with fellow classmates raising money and faculty arranging for free textbooks to further aid the student, making it possible for the student to complete the program.

“It’s been a passion of mine to support students facing this kind of crisis,”. Noted Dr. Bonner. “I cannot allow it to interfere with his or her education!”

Your gift today will help ensure that no Health Professions student has to drop out because of an unforeseen personal emergency.
