Research on Diet for Cancer Patients

Can eating a high-fat, low-carb diet help people undergoing radiation treatment for fast-growing cancerous brain tumors?

Future oncologist medical students are working with Upstate’s chief of neurosurgery, Dr. Larry Chin, to study whether a ketogenic diet during radiation therapy can improve the prognosis for patients with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.

Money raised would be used to pay for materials for patients with glioblastoma who agree to participate.

This study is currently pending approval by Upstate’s Internal Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB)The IRB is an administrative body established to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in research activities conducted under the auspices of Upstate Medical University.
