Scar Laser Therapy System

“With scar laser therapy, we can achieve promising results for our patients with burn scars. Scar appearance and functionality can be significantly improved in most cases. And the treatments can be repeated until the desired outcome is achieved. Overall, we can achieve increased patient self-esteem and well-being, and improved quality of life.”   – Joan Dolinak, MD, FACS, Medical Director, Clark Burn Center

The Upstate Foundation is partnering with the Burn Foundation of Central New York to raise $150,000 to purchase a state-of-the-art scar laser therapy system for the Clark Burn Center at Upstate University Hospital. To kick off the fundraising initiative, the Burn Foundation of Central New York recently presented the Upstate Foundation with a $25,000 check, which was matched by the Clark Burn Center.

The laser system is the standard of therapy for scar reconstruction. This minimally invasive treatment softens, reduces redness and improves the appearance, texture and elasticity of thick, tight, painful scars that restrict motion and can be functionally disabling. The procedure is effective on new and mature burn and traumatic scars. Insurance covers most procedures.

It is the ONLY scar laser treatment of its kind in the Clark Burn Center’s service area that encompasses 34 upstate New York counties and three in northern Pennsylvania.

Burn and traumatic injuries caused by house fires, kitchen accidents, scalding water and car accidents cause serious scarring in children and adults. In addition, scarring can occur as a result of surgery. Scars can affect survivors physically causing pain, itching, discomfort and restricted mobility. They can also be emotionally and psychologically devastating, and a constant reminder of the traumatic experience that caused them.

Please help provide a life-changing treatment for children and adult survivors of burn and traumatic injuries. For more information contact the Upstate Foundation at 315-464-4416.

Donations can also be made to the scar laser initiative through Upstate’s annual Community Giving Campaign or your company’s United Way Campaign: Fund #61311005.
