She survived a stroke…
Dilyn was a high school honor roll student and multisport athlete. She was a happy, thriving teenager, living the dream. Until one night, the dream became a nightmare. Dilyn woke her mom up with severe symptoms of headache, vomiting and eventually, she could no longer stand up.
It was at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital where a neurologist determined there was a blood clot in her brain. Dilyn had suffered a stroke. Thanks to emergency surgery, a two-week stay in the hospital and a week in rehab, Dilyn miraculously recovered.
“We were so shocked when doctors told us that she was one lucky young lady... It’s very rare for a healthy person to have a stroke. To not only survive, but to have very little debilitation, Is nothing but a miracle,” said Dilyn’s mom, Desiree. “We are truly blessed that I can share Dilyn’s story and not have It be a sad one.”
It has been a year since Dilyn’s ordeal began and she continues to go to many doctor appointments, but she is doing very well with physical therapy and is back in school. She even played basketball this season. When you answer the call for a donation, you are helping families throughout the region navigate an unplanned scenario just like this one.
