In 2019, The World Health Organization and The American Nurses Association designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife.” In true extraordinary fashion, nursing professionals across the globe have had significant positive impact on health outcomes as COVID-19 took over healthcare systems. In the face of a global virus, nurses demonstrated incredible strength, innovation, flexibility, and compassion as they cared for our communities. Upstate nursing stepped up to the plate and delivered the same extraordinary care as we are known to deliver within the region and now extending into NYC and Long Island with COVID relief efforts. 2020 is an especially important year for Upstate Nursing as the first ANCC Magnet Designation Site Visit will occur this November.

Upstate will celebrate our nurses and nursing support staff for their continued dedication to our mission, to improve the health of the communities we serve, at our annual nursing excellence event. This year marks our 34th celebration of extraordinary nursing care here at Upstate. Although unable to come together in person for our event, a virtual event will be hosted.

DAISY Award recipients will be recognized for extraordinary nursing care as well as BEE award recipients for extraordinary nursing support. Additional awards include our William J. Painter Award, Spirit of Nursing Award, Pharmacy Award, Pediatric Awards and Geriatric nursing excellence awards. Interprofessional collaboration is a highly regarded value within our practice, therefore we will also be recognizing a non-nursing individual or team that has made an impact on nursing care and Upstates nursing practice environment.
