AXA Hearts in Action committee raised $706 from its annual Daffodil Days to support the Upstate Cancer Center. Proceeds represent the sale of almost 100 daffodils. Employees also donated potted mini-daffodils to give to cancer patients.

Representatives at the Cell Phones for Less, Inc.’s James Street location presented a $414 gift to the Upstate Foundation representing customer donations equally matched by the company. The gift supports the Friends of the Upstate Cancer Center fund and the ongoing vision of the Upstate Cancer Center to keep pace with new technology, advance research and support patient programs focused on the care and recovery of the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Warm hats, scarves and socks were also collected to be given to cancer patients.  Pictured from left: Musa Almaliti, Crystal Finley, Amanda Shelley, Kayla Hall, Hatidza Salkic and Anas Almaletti, company president.

In recognition of Black History month, Upstate medical students presented a check for  $5,800 to the Upstate Foundation to support  the sickle cell program at the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.  The money raised was a result of a year’s worth of fundraising events, including the annual dinner dance hosted by the Student National Medical Association, a student organization focused on supporting underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of the underserved Syracuse community, and increasing culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.  Pictured, front row from left (holding check): Ari Acevedo, Eliza Juma and CJ Mills. All are Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital patients. Back row, from left: Sengal Alazar, Melissa Espert, McKinzie Neggers, Aluko Gift (Vice President), Riley Richards (Historian), Heitham Wady, Kristi Griffin, Hannah Charland (medical student), and Nefertiti Tyehemba. All are Upstate medical students except Griffin, who is the educational specialist at the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital .

The incredible team led by Chris Arnold and Ellen Yeomans from Paige's Butterfly Run run came by with $240,000 raised in 2015 to support our pediatric cancer care and research. This gift is the largest made to pediatrics this year, and the largest gift from Paige's Run to date! Over the last 19 years, Paige's Butterfly Run has raised more than $2 million dollars to support our kids and families. We couldn't be more grateful and consider them to be an important part of our Upstate family. Registration for 2016's 20th Annual Paige's Butterfly Run will open on February 1.

The Upstate Foundation and Upstate Medical University leadership have combined resources to establish this endowment in recognition of Dr. Eastwood's outstanding service. Gifts are welcome.
