Friend in Deed awards
2023 marked 27 years of giving to the Friend in Deed program and over $2.3 million has been raised supporting 430 initiatives. Thank you!
Friend in Deed is the annual fund for Upstate University Hospital, and is an important source of funding for many programs and services in the hospital for which there is no other means of support. Co-chaired in 2023 by Upstate Foundation board member April Stone and Professor and Chair Emeritus Dr. John Hoepner, Department of Ophthalmology at Upstate, Friend in Deed raised $64,363 to fund the following initiatives:
- Grief and bereavement support materials for families
- Stroke survivor and caregiver retreat subsidies
- Home monitoring blood pressure cuffs for stroke survivors
- Clothing for patients seen in the Emergency Department
- Support for patients to get home from the hospital
- Wellness kits for healthcare workers
- Art and Recreational Therapy for Behavioral Health Units
- Resources to overcome barriers to discharge, such as clothing
- Pill boxes to ensure patients transitioning to home take medications correctly
