Upstate Foundation awards nearly $82,500 in grants for 2020

Each year, the Upstate Foundation raises money for Upstate University Hospital’s annual fund called Friend In Deed. These donations are then awarded to deserving projects across the hospital in response to applications submitted by patient care professionals. In 2020, the Foundation disbursed nearly $82,500 to the 19 initiatives listed below.

  • “Infection Prevention On-the-Go” (hand sanitizer)
  • “Healthy Plates for Older Adults” 
  • Resource support for indigent patients of the adult medicine clinic
  • Support of Inclusive Health Services
  • “Palliative Care Unmet Needs” fund
  • Support for patients affected by substance use disorders
  • Materials and support of the Upstate Volunteer Cheer Squad
  • “Easing Into Alone Time” program for patients facing a prolonged hospital stay
  • “Creating and Healing with Clay” program
  • University Pediatric and Adolescent Center (UPAC) clothing project
  • Water bottles to encourage hydration for radiation oncology patients
  • Bicycle helmet giveaway
  • “Pet Robot” project for patients with cognitive issues
  • Outpatient pharmacy program
  • Free vascular disease screenings
  • “Reducing Barriers to Discharge” program
  • Clothing and sundries to sustain patient dignity
  • “Therapeutic Pillows for Cardiac Surgery” program
  • Heart failure program at Upstate Community Hospital
