Brighter Beginnings – Upstate’s Campaign for Newborns
Upstate University Hospital is investing significant resources to support the renovation and expansion of the maternity unit and nursery at its Community Campus, and we need your help. The Upstate Foundation’s Brighter Beginnings campaign will help support the construction plan, which calls for a state-of-the-art nursery and large, private rooms with bathrooms to encourage family members to spend quality time together – vitally important in the first days of life.
In addition to bricks and mortar are amenities that enhance the hospital experience during those first few days. Brighter Beginnings will also raise funds to support a “wish list” of items that the maternity staff thoughtfully created to enrich the care and comfort of babies, mothers and families. A “sibling center” featuring a gaming table, books and movies and phone-charging kiosk in the family waiting room, a fully stocked snack cart that will offer nutritious snacks between meals, sound systems in each room so that soothing music can be played for mom and baby, educational materials in several languages recognizing the need to support the increasing number of refugee families we serve – these are just some of the special amenities we are planning to offer as we reach out to the community for support.
Brighter Beginnings will also support programmatic funding for mothers and babies who are at risk. The Centering Pregnancy Program is an international model of care that essentially supports at-risk mothers and infants from pregnancy through the first year of life. These mothers have medically complex pregnancies because of diabetes. Also, an increasing number of expectant women are struggling with substance abuse that will ultimately impact the health and well-being of the mother and newborn. There is a clear need for programs that support mothers and babies at risk to ensure healthy and happy outcomes.
Please help us make this important community resource the very best it can be. If you, your family, or your civic group are interested in naming opportunities there is a list at the bottom of this page, or call 315-464-4416.
