Upstate’s Pediatric Emergency Department has been the hub of the region’s pediatric emergency services since the1980s. Since the opening of Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, the department is treating children in record numbers:

  • More than 60 percent of the children’s hospital admissions come through the pediatric emergency department; the Pediatric ED admits 12 percent of patients seen. The Pediatric ED sees approximately 27,000 children and adolescents annually, ranging in age from 1 day to 18 years, from a diverse urban and rural population throughout the 17-county region.
  • The Pediatric ED receives more than 15 transfers per day from outside health care facilities or private offices.
  • Nationally, among children’s hospitals of comparable size, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital is one of the top for the number of patients seen at its pediatric emergency department.

Upstate is the region’s only dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department and Level I Trauma Center and, as such, specializes in providing emergency care to the most critically injured children and adolescents. Upstate’s pediatric trauma services are certified by the American College of Surgeons and the only pediatric trauma center in Upstate New York.

This project will increase the space available to treat children and provide an environment that will lower anxiety and have amenities specific for children of all ages and their family members.  Please help us make this important community resource the very best it can be.  If you, your family, or your civic group are interested in naming opportunities there is a list at the bottom of this page, or call 315-464-4416.
