How do unrestricted pediatric gifts help at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital?

Helping children with every gift

Through the generosity of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals retail partners, community organizations, school groups and countless individuals, the Upstate Foundation raised $2.5 million in 2019 for pediatric programs and services.

An allocations committee helped the Upstate Foundation determine how best to use these contributions to make a difference in the lives of children and their families. Following are a few initiatives that received funding:

  • The Child Life Program creates normalcy for hospitalized children through books, videos, video game machines, fun-filled family dinners, art classes, visits from pets and zoo animals, and more.
  • Many things needed for a hospital stay are not covered by insurance. These unmet pediatric patient needs include meal tickets, gas cards, parking, replacement car seats and emergency housing for families.
  • Funding supported positive patient experiences such as Taco Day, Pizza Day and Milkshake Day, along with the art gallery, face painters, balloon makers and magicians to make a hospital stay less scary.
  • Safe Kids Upstate NY provides education and outreach for pediatric injury prevention in such areas as fire/burn prevention, playground safety, safe sleep, dog bite prevention and car seat safety.
  • Purchase of new movies, books, video games, crafting supplies, home library books, magazines and puzzles help keep the Family Resource Center well-stocked.

Special thanks to these local/regional businesses!
